Northeast Harbor Golf Club

On the quiet shores of Mount Desert Island, where the pines meet the sea, a love for the ancient Scottish game took root in the summer of 1895. It began humbly—just a few handmade holes laid out by J.G. Thorp, an amateur golfer from nearby Greening Island, who carved fairways through pastures where cows roamed freely and served as living hazards. The land was rough, the game still new to America, but the spirit of golf was alive and well.
